FC Barcelona are moving quickly in the transfer market as the club looks to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of next season, and one operation now appears to be entering its final stages.

After days of intense negotiations and growing optimism internally, Anthony Gordon is now on the verge of becoming a Barça player. The Newcastle United winger is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Catalan club once the final formalities are completed.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana hierarchy already considers the deal practically closed, although the player still has to undergo a medical examination and officially sign his contract before the announcement can be made.

Joan Laporta himself addressed the situation last night after a meeting at the Hotel Torre Melina with sporting director Deco, Alejandro Echevarría, and agents Juanma López and Andy Bara, who represent Joan Garcia and Dani Olmo.

Speaking about the Gordon operation, the elected Barcelona president admitted that the deal is now very advanced.

The meeting reportedly included discussions over the negotiations Deco carried out in London earlier this week with Newcastle United. The Premier League side is understood to have accepted a package worth around €70 million plus another €10 million in variables for the England international.

Barcelona are now hoping to complete every remaining step before Gordon joins the England national team camp on Monday under Thomas Tuchel ahead of the upcoming World Cup preparations.

The arrival of the 25-year-old would represent another major attacking reinforcement for Flick as Barça continue shaping a squad capable of competing for every major title next season.
