Recently re-elected Barcelona president Joan Laporta stressed Catalan is important at the club but will not be made compulsory, and he hailed Kika Nazareth’s swift integration and fluency.
"Kika Nazareth is Portuguese, she arrived here and already speaks perfect Catalan," Laporta said, speaking to AS.
He added that Barcelona value local culture and language, while leaving it to players to decide whether to learn Catalan.
Laporta also addressed his relationship with Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Pérez, saying personal respect remains but institutional ties have been damaged by the Negreira case. "Every time the judge tries to shelve the case, they present evidence, which are statements on the radio or in the media, evidence that always ends up being useless. There is a very obscure interest at play here," he said.
Nazareth was recently at Estádio da Luz to watch Benfica face Porto, a clássico that finished 2-2. After the match, she said she wants to play for Benfica.
