Laporta launches another fierce attack on Victor Font: ‘He has no shame’ | OneFootball

Joan Laporta ended his election campaign with a passionate and highly charged speech, addressing supporters alongside members of his team. 

The event, which was meant to mark the final stage of the campaign, quickly turned into a strong defence of his management and a direct attack on rival candidate Victor Font.

Speaking in front of an enthusiastic audience, Laporta began by showing support for Barcelona sporting director Deco, who has faced criticism during the campaign.

“I wanted to give a shout-out to Deco, who has put up with all the nasty things that have been said about him,” he began, as per Mundo Deportivo.

After praising Deco, Laporta quickly shifted his attention towards Font and his close associate Jaume Guardiola, accusing them of creating instability around the club during the election period.

“There’s one guy who destabilises things every time he opens his mouth. And they tried to prevent us from registering Olmo and Pau Victor. That’s why I made such a fuss. 

“He talks about other people’s titles and not ours. Do you know who we’ve beaten in the last three finals? 

“It’s a disgrace that a candidate for the Barça presidency is playing into the hands of the hardliners.”

Laporta continued by criticising what he described as unfair tactics used against his administration during the campaign. 

He suggested that his rivals had launched a coordinated effort to damage his reputation and question the club’s management.

“They’ve run a campaign against us where they’ve played dirty. This man, accompanying him, who nearly sank Banc Sabadell (Guardiola), has devoted himself to claiming that we pocketed money. And that’s not all.

“It’s quite a coincidence that a member files a lawsuit full of falsehoods and lies, and the very next day the candidate lends it credibility. Those are his mantras. 

“And then the dirty war, hurting someone in my circle (referring to Alejandro Echevarria) and also the locker room, which has suffered from the dirty tactics.”

The Erling Haaland issue

Laporta also revisited one of the most talked-about moments of the campaign, which involved the name of Erling Haaland. 

According to Laporta, Font had tried to create confusion by linking his project to the Norwegian striker.

“Font used Mateu Alemany, and then came the Haaland fiasco. He has no shame. Haaland’s agent came out five minutes later to deny it. 

“These are election-season schemes. Font has no sense of embarrassment, and it backfired on him again.”

The Barcelona president then moved on to criticise what he described as an elitist attitude from his opponents, contrasting it with the connection he believes he has with ordinary supporters of the club.

“They have a misguided sense of elitism. Sometimes they’re so full of themselves. And for him to say that I’m a former president of Barça… I am the president of Barça and I will be until I die.”

More questions for Font

Laporta also questioned whether Font truly understands the values of the club and the players who represent it.

“If you’ve resorted to demagoguery, if you don’t like the Barça players, you’re disqualified from being president.”

Before concluding his speech, Laporta also raised concerns about what he sees as a lack of clarity in the opposition’s plans for FC Barcelona Femeni, which has become one of the most successful teams in world football.

“We still don’t know what the opposing team’s plan is for the Women’s team. Such a good team… We explain our plan, without arrogance or high-handedness.”
