FC Barcelona are on cloud nine after they won the La Liga title on Sunday night, doing so by securing a convincing 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Coming into the game needing only one point to secure the title, the Blaugrana took control of the game at the Spotify Camp Nou with goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres.

Joan Laporta elated

Speaking to the media after the title win and the celebrations that ensued on the field at the Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona president-elect Joan Laporta could not hide his pleasure.

Laporta acknowledged last night that the Clasico that secured the league title for his team “was historic because it was like a final.’

“Winning against our eternal rivals is fantastic, but the important thing is that we played a great match. We’ve shown that we have a great team and that, in addition to winning titles, we have a team for years to come,” he added, highlighting the performance.

Laporta also had kind words for manager Hansi Flick, who stayed with the team despite having lost his father earlier on Sunday.

The president-elect highlighted Flick’s “humanity” in demonstrating his “commitment to the team” by wanting to be present at this match on the very day his father passed away.

Laporta played a critical role in bringing Flick over to Barcelona after the club parted ways with Xavi Hernandez at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The German has been excellent in his two years at the club so far, already winning five trophies. So, it does not come as a surprise to see the Blaugrana being poised to renew his contract by an additional year until 2028.
