The German national team wins its second World Cup group stage match against Ivory Coast in stoppage time. The DFB team celebrates a 2-1 (0-1) victory over the Ivorians. Five FC Bayern players are in the starting lineup—along with potential new signing Nathaniel Brown. Leon Goretzka comes on as a substitute later in the game. Here are the FC Bayern stars’ individual ratings from FCBinside.
Manuel Neuer: There was nothing he could do about the goal that made it 0–1. In the first half, Neuer faced only one more shot on goal from Bonny, which he saved without any trouble. In the second half, the Bayern keeper had absolutely nothing to do. Grade: 3.
Joshua Kimmich: Havertz had a dangerous header off Kimmich’s good cross. He lost a duel on the wing against Diomande, whose cross led to the 0–1 goal. Kimmich was very committed, however, repeatedly pushing forward as a right back and, as captain, driving the team forward until the very end. Grade: 2.
Jonathan Tah: Had everything under control. First alongside Schlotterbeck, then—after Schlotterbeck was substituted due to injury—in the center of defense alongside Rüdiger. A convincing performance against his father’s home country. Grade: 3.
Aleksandar Pavlovic: Scored with a header, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul on goalkeeper Fofana. Overall, he was unable to make his mark on Germany’s play in midfield. He was substituted in the 60th minute. Grade: 4.
Jamal Musiala: Had one dangerous shot in the first half that went just wide of the goal. Kept trying to dribble his way through, but without much success. Was substituted after an hour. Grade: 3.

Nathaniel Brown: Bayern wants to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt for the new season. Before the 0-1 goal, he managed to clear the ball, but it fell right at Kessie’s feet, who then scored. Brown was strong in one-on-one battles on defense and lively on offense. Shortly before the end, he had a good chance, but goalkeeper Fofana made the save. Another strong performance from Brown. Grade: 2.
Substitutes:
Leon Goretzka (85th minute for Havertz): Came on too late to be evaluated.
