Our team suffered another defeat in the second friendly of the day, losing 1-2 against Turkish side Basaksehir. Adam Daghim scored our goal.
Our second friendly was against the fifth-placed team from last season's Süper Lig, who are currently training in Geinberg in preparation for the upcoming season and need to gradually build up their form. Next week, Nuri Sahin's team will face the winner of Sarajevo (BIH) vs. Turku (FIN) in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. The match started at a good pace, charecterised by quick passing sequences, a fast pace, and good scoring opportunities. Eddie Baidoo, in particular, used his speed on Salzburg's right flank to create several dangerous chances. While Christian Zawieschitzky thwarted a great chance for Basaksehir after about five minutes, the speedy Adam Daghim was denied by the Turkish goalkeeper shortly afterwards. It was then our keeper who intervened again to knock a header from Yildirim away from the line. Just before half-time, however, the breakthrough came: referee Walter Altmann missed a foul on Abubakr Barry, allowing Yildirim to get the ball and slot home for a 1-0 lead.
In light rain, the match became even faster and more dynamic after the break. Adam Daghim capitalised on one of these opportunities to equalise, finishing with a powerful right-footed shot to make it 1-1. Around the hour mark, just as in the Osaka match, the team was replaced with a very young side, consisting mainly of Liefering talents. They did well for a long time, holding their own and allowing the strong Turkish side very little, until the 88th minute - when Turhan sealed the victory with a close-range goal.

Zawieschitzky (62. Ozegovic); Veratschnig (62. Hussauf), Boma (62. Masching), Zabransky (62. Ganser), Schmid (62. Traore); Barry (62. Riquelme), Diabate (62. Lukic), Baidoo (62. Werner), Mazurek (62. Matijasevic), Daghim (62. Maijasec); Vertessen (62. Adejenughure)
It was a very intense day for us today. We're obviously not satisfied with the results as we wanted to win both matches. Nevertheless, it was very important because we get to see where we currently stand. I think this second match against Basaksehir was a very, very good test at a very high level. Their UEFA Conference League campaign starts next week. We now have a few days to work on the final details. It's about time it finally gets underway.
