Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, Christian Falk reported last night.
The Senegal star, who has moved closer to the exit at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer, has apparently become surplus to requirements.
It’s been clear for a while that Chelsea would be willing to sell him – the question is what’s going to be offered to them and what they’d accept.
Christian Falk’s Tweet about Bayern and Nicolas Jackson.
Bayern have sold a lot of attacking players this summer and Jackson feels like potentially a good option for them, given he’s comfortable playing across the front line.
Falk is a reliable source on Bundesliga matters, so we’re inclined to believe him. But this is still far away from a deal. The personal terms tend to be the easy part – Chelsea have a strong hand in this negotiation and it will be tough to agree a deal with them.
The key detail in all this is the third line – “Bayern want a loan deal.” The question is – will Chelsea agree to this?
We all know they’re incredibly reluctant to accept a loan in most cases. Certainly when it comes to the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, players on big wages with no first team role, there’s no point loaning them. A year goes by and they lose value. There’s no point, unless there’s no other option.
But Jackson is in a different position. He’s got years left on his contract, he’s worth a lot, and could yet have a future at Chelsea. Loaning him to Bayern Munich, where he could potentially have a fantastic season, could actually see his value rise.
It will be very interesting to see how Chelsea react to this idea.
