A busy summer continues at Old Trafford as Michael Carrick reshapes squad

The centre-back, 21, has left Old Trafford on a permanent basis in order to join FC Lausanne-Sport for an undisclosed fee.

The Swiss club are under the same Ineos ownership umbrella as United.

Lifelong fan and Manchester native Fredricson joined United at Under-9s level and progressed all the way through to the first team, making his senior debut in April 2025 under former boss Ruben Amorim during a 1-0 defeat by Wolves in the Premier League.

He also started in the 4-3 loss to Brentford the following month and played the first half of last season’s Carabao Cup second-round tie against Grimsby.

Fredricson’s fourth and final senior appearance for United came on Boxing Day last year, when he was sent on as a late replacement for Luke Shaw during a 1-0 home victory over Newcastle.

United said: “United is all that Tyler Fredricson has ever known. But now it's time for a new adventure.

“Tyler departs with our thanks for his contributions and best wishes for the next chapter.”

A number of other youngsters could follow Fredricson out of the exit door at Old Trafford this summer, following reports that United are also open to selling goalkeeper Radek Vitek and left-back Harry Amass, plus midfielders Toby Collyer and Dan Gore.

Academy trio Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe have also left, while more senior exits have included Casemiro, who departed at the end of his contract amid the respective releases of Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, and Rasmus Hojlund, whose loan spell at Napoli was converted into a permanent arrangement.

In terms of incomings, United have strengthened their midfield options by moving for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively, at a combined cost of approximately £85million, plus welcoming free agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow after his exit from Leeds.

Another goalkeeper - Wales U21 international Kit Margetson - has also joined after a compensation package was agreed with Swansea.

Tielemans reported to United’s AON Training Complex at Carrington on Thursday alongside Belgium team-mate Senne Lammens, ready to commence pre-season training following a post-World Cup break.

United are believed to be hunting for a third midfield signing with Manuel Ugarte - who had been strongly linked with an exit - facing months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a serious knee ligament injury suffered at the World Cup with Uruguay.

Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have both been linked, along with the likes of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Roma star Manu Kone and in-demand Bournemouth playmaker Alex Scott.

The Sun claim that United are now weighing up a move for Lewis Hall as the long-term left-back successor to Shaw, following news of manager Eddie Howe’s shock departure from Newcastle.

Marcus Rashford’s United future remains uncertain, with the player having now bid farewell to Barcelona after they opted not to exercise their €30m option to turn his season-long loan stint into a permanent transfer.
