South American giants Brazil had a massive opportunity to go up 1-0 over opponents Norway during Sunday's Round of 16 clash. But they went on to squander it.

Manchester United star Matheus Cunha was blatantly brought down in the box, and despite no initial penalty call, VAR intervened and awarded Brazil a rightful spot-kick in the 14th minute.

Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior grabbed the ball but then handed it off to Bruno Guimarães. The Newcastle star's stutter-step penalty was then comfortably saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

The missed effort was just the fifth in World Cup history for Brazil, and that rare miscue then brings up a bad omen for the team.

The national team has been eliminated in World Cup knockout games two of the last three times they missed a penalty on the global stage (1934 and 1986).

To make matters even worse, they've never beaten Norway (two losses, two draws). Can they find a way in the second half?
