It’s been a slow and sleepy January for Chelsea so far – but it looks like we could be in for a thrilling finish.
One player looks to be the centrepiece – Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich. The young talent is starting to push for a move, and Chelsea are in the mix.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has been all over this move since day one, and he’s just released an evening update on the situation. He says that a “permanent move is being assessed,” and that Chelsea have been “in talks since the beginning of January.”
It sounds like we’re really taking notice of the winger’s newfound determination to leave Bayern, and are willing to do a lot to make it happen. It won’t be easy – or cheap – but clearly adding a winger is something we want to do.

The elephant in the room here, which came up earlier today is that Tel might not want to join Chelsea. A lot of the chatter earlier was that Arsenal provided a preferable option to the winger, who was set to “snub” the Blues.
“German reporter Philipp Kessler reports that a move for Tel to Chelsea is not an option for the player at the moment. And this is because Tel does not see Chelsea as a good destination for his development at this stage,” our writer Simon Phillips reported two days ago.
But one can’t imagine that Tottenham or Manchester United, the teams mentioned by Romano in this Tweet, are ALSO more tempting than a move to Stamford Bridge. We may be a mess – but so are they. There are an amazing 7 teams apparently in the mix for the 19 year old – it really could be a thrilling finish to January.
