Lauren Hemp admitted she is “not used to losing” after her Manchester City side crashed out of the League Cup to Chelsea.

Wieke Kaptein’s goal sunk Manchester City at the Joie Stadium, as Chelsea sent a message to their Women’s Super League title rivals.

Chelsea, who are six points behind City in the WSL, return to the Joie Stadium in a huge league clash on February 1st.

Sonia Bompastor’s side will meanwhile face Manchester United in the League Cup final, after they beat Arsenal 1-0.

Lauren Hemp reacts to Chelsea defeat

Manchester City and England winger Lauren Hemp admitted that her side’s loss to Chelsea was hard to take.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, she said: “At the moment we’re not used to losing to be honest so it’s very hard to take and I mean you’re at this club because you want to win things and we just missed out on a trophy today,” she added.

“I thought we were really good to be honest and I thought we created a lot of good chances, but against top opposition you’ve got to take one or two chances that you get and that’s the decider in these games.

“It’s tough for us but we’ll bounce back in no time, this is a strong group, a great group, girls who all stick together.

“So I have no doubt that we’ll bounce back quick.”

Hemp felt that City were “unlucky to lose” and will be hoping that they can take their chances when they face Chelsea again on February 1st.

What’s next for Manchester City?

Manchester City will be seeking an immediate response when they face London City Lionesses in the WSL on Sunday.

Speaking after City’s loss to Chelsea, head coach Andree Jeglertz said: “First of all, I’m disappointed because we’ve lost the possibility for a title which is important for me, the players and the Club, but I’m proud of the performance.”

He added: “We have been winning a lot of games so it’s just handling this one loss and making sure London City Lionesses are the ones who suffer from that.”

City will then host Chelsea again at the Joie Stadium, in a match that could determine where the WSL title goes this season.

Meanwhile, City fans will hope for positive news regarding Bunny Shaw in the coming weeks. Shaw’s Manchester City contract expires this summer, though the club are confident she will renew her deal.
