Feyenoord midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki has reportedly been offered to Lazio, who would give Gennaro Gattuso an additional option in the middle of the park.
The 28-year-old is a member of the Algerian squad currently competing in the FIFA World Cup. He has already made two appearances in the tournament, one as a starter. But at club level, the midfielder’s future remains up in the air.
As a native of Amsterdam, zerrouki began his career at Ajax, before moving to FC Twente in 2016. After climbing his way up the club’s ranks, he was promoted to the first team in 2020. The Algerian was then sold to Feyenoord in 2023 for €7 million. However, he was loaned back to Twente last summer, reclaiming his starting role. He contributed with three goals and five assists in 35 appearances this season.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Zerrouki has been offered to the Biancocelesti through intermediaries. While he’s not the only player proposed to the club, the source believes Gattuso could be enticed by the Algerian international, who is considered a well-rounded holding midfielder, combining playmaking skills with defensive solidity.
Lazio have already lost the services of Toma Basic, who signed for Venezia on a free transfer. They could also part ways with Reda Belahyane, while Danilo Cataldi is racing against time to recover before the start of the season after undergoing groin surgery. Therefore, the midfield department might need an extra body.
While Gattuso is planning to implement a 4-2-3-1 formation, the identity of the attacking midfielder remains shrouded in mystery. But if Lazio bring in Zerrouki to combine with Nicolo Rovella in the double pivot, Kenneth Taylor could be deployed in a more advanced role, allowing the team to maintain its balance.
