Lazio have ruled out Alessio Romagnoli leaving in January after he appeared to bid farewell to supporters on Saturday amid Al-Sadd links. The club said in a statement that he had not been placed on the market and would remain.

The defender had seemed close to a permanent switch to Al-Sadd.

Despite several recent enquiries, the intention is to keep a player viewed as central to the sporting project, both technically and personally, and valued for his leadership.

Romagnoli joined on a free from Milan in 2022 after winning Serie A with the Rossoneri.

The 31-year-old has been a regular this season, making 21 appearances in all competitions.
