Lazio will be without Matias Vecino in the weekend’s trip to Parma, as the veteran was forced to forfeit after sustaining a muscle injury.
The Uruguayan was in the starting lineup in Thursday’s goalless draw against Ludogorets, linking up with Matteo Guendouzi in the double pivot. However, the 33-year-old pulled a muscle during the second half, so he left his place on the pitch for Nicolo Rovella at the hour mark.
Vecino underwent clinical tests today and according to Radio Sei, the results detected a low-grade lesion to the left thigh flexor. The report claims only the official announcement is missing at this point.
Hence, the former Inter and Fiorentina has been ruled out of Sunday’s Serie A clash against Parma. The source also expects him to skip the midweek Coppa Italia tie against Napoli, but could be available for next weekend’s league showdown against Antonio Conte’s men.
While the experienced player has seemingly averted a lengthy stoppage, his injury will leave Baroni with a depleted midfield department, as Gaetano Castrovilli is still recovering from surgery, while Toma Basic and Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro have been omitted from both Serie A and Europa League squads. Therefore, Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi should start as usual, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru might be the solitary backup.
