AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah has emerged as a target for Lazio, who are also seeking reinforcement in the middle of the park.

The Background

During his unveiling as the new Lazio manager, Gennaro Gattuso identified the attack and the backline as his main priorities on the market. Nevertheles, the club has also attempted to bring in a new attacking midfielder in Jonathan Asp Jensen, but missed out to Deportivo La Coruña.

Lazio Interested in AC Milan Midfielder Yunus Musah

According to multiple sources in the Italian media, including Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are now eyeing a move for Musah, whose future at Milan remains uncertain. Although the American international isn’t the classic No.10 Gattuso has been searching for, he is a versatile player, who originally plays as a box-to-box midfielder, but can be deployed further up the pitch, or even on the flanks.

Musah: Career Path & Milan Struggles

The 23-year-old is an Arsenal academy product who went on to make a name for himself at Valencia, earning a move to Milan in 2023. With the Rossoneri changing a plethora of managers over the past couple of years, the New York native was lost in the shuffle, so he was allowed to join Atalanta last summer.

Unfortunately for Musah, he found an almost similar situation in Bergamo following Gian Piero Gasperini’s departure. He was initially brought in by Ivan Juric, but then struggled to carve himself a place in Raffaele Palladino’s plans. The USMNT international has since returned to Milanello, where he still has a contract running until June 2028.

Lazio Wants Musah on an Initial Loan

The Roman newspaper believes Lazio will try to secure Musah’s services by offering Milan €2 million with an option to buy for €18 million, which would turn into an obligation in case the Biancocelesti qualify for Europe at the end of the season.

Claudio Lotito has become a fan of this formula (already adopted in January when he signed Daniel Maldini from Atalanta), as it allows him to reinforce the squad with temporary solutions without making long-term commitments, especially since Lazio appear increasingly unlikely to finish in the Top 6/7 due to the squad’s diminishing quality.
