Stade Rennais centre-forward Arnaud Kalimuendo has now emerged as a potential transfer target for Lazio.
The Biancocelesti are expected to pursue a new striker next summer, as their lack of depth up front has been exposed this season, especially when Taty Castellanos was struggling with injuries between February and March. Loum Tchaouna and Tijjani Noslin failed to score during the Argentine’s absence, while Boulaye Dia has been more effective when playing in a deeper role.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Italian capital side is studying a move for Kalimuendo who has registered impressive stats in Ligue 1 this season. The 23-year-old has so far scored 17 goals and produced four assists in 31 appearances in the French top flight. He currently sits third in the league’s scoring charts behind Ousmane Dembele (21) and Mason Greenwood (19).
Kalimuendo started his career at Paris Saint-Germain, but couldn’t find enough in the star-studded squad. The bomber spent two seasons on loan at Lens before being sold to Rennes for €20 million. His contract with the Ligue 1 side is valid until June 2027, and his value is estimated at €25 million.
The report adds that Rennes are well aware of the player’s potential departure, so they’ve already been working on finding a replacement, thus targeting Werder Bremen’s Marvin Ducksch. In addition to Lazio, Olympique Marseille are also interested in Kalimuendo’s services.
As the source explains, earning qualification for next season’s edition of the Champions League would boost Lazio’s chances of signing the French striker. The alternative solution would be to cash in on Castellanos who reportedly has at least five suitors between England and Spain.
Kalimuendo isn’t the only young centre-forward who is being linked with a move to Formello. Viktoria Plzen’s Rafiu Durosinmi has been on the club’s radar for several months, while Millwall’s Mihailo Ivanovic has recently emerged as a potential candidate for the role.
