After last week’s medical check-ups, Lazio have begun their pre-season training camp at Formello on Monday morning.

Lazio Pre-Season Kicked Off on Monday

Gennaro Gattuso and his technical staff will oversee a training session in the morning and another in the afternoon over the next few weeks. They will also contest six friendly contests against mostly lower opposition before playing their first official match of the season against Mantova on August 16 in the opening round of the Coppa Italia.

Lazio Squad Revealed

Lazio had already announced the list of players who will take part in the pre-season. So it’s time to take a closer look at every playing department.

Goalkeepers

With Ivan Provedel off to Inter Milan, Christos Mandas is expected to inherit the No.1 role, with Edoardo Motta serving as his backup. Alesio Furlanetto suffered a serious injury at the end of the previous campaign, so Davide Renzetti will be promoted to the first team. 18-year-old Luigi D’Alessio won’t be part of the senior squad this season, but he has been summoned for pre-season.

Called up: Mandas, Motta, Renzetti, D’Alessio

Centre-Backs

Lazio are starting pre-season with a depleted defence after selling Mario Gila to AC Milan and Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd. Their only three options are Patric, Samuel Gigot, and Oliver Provstgaard. They are also joined by 19-year-old Brazilian Ricardo Bordon and 16-year-old Slovenian wonderkid Blaz Kovac.

Nevertheless, reinforcement is on the way, with the management closing in on Sergi Dominguez and Danilho Doekhi, and rekindling their interest in Diogo Leite.

Called up: Gigot, Patric, Provstgaard, Kovac, Bordon

Full-Backs

Unlike all other departments, Lazio have an abundance of full-backs, with six players vying for two roles. On the left side, newcomer Alfonso Pedraza joined Nuno Tavares and Manuel Pellegrini, who could be on his way out.

On the opposite side, Romano Floriani Mussolini returned from a loan spell at Cremonese. The 23-year-old could start the season as Adam Marusic’s understudy, pushing Manuel Lazzari out the door.

Called up: Floriani, Lazzari, Marusic, Pedraza, Pellegrini, Nuno Tavares

Midfielders

Gattuso will have limited options in the middle of the park. The club parted ways with Toma Basic, who signed for Venezia, while Danilo Cataldi is out after undergoing groin surgery. Nicolo Rovella and Kenneth Taylor should be the key players in the manager’s plans, while Reda Belahyane and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will be hoping to improve their status.

Adrian Przyborek only made one appearance last season following his January move, but the young Pole remains highly regarded at Formello. The camp will also feature 19-year-old Bruno Galassi, who has only recently joined from Real Madrid, and 20-year-old Valerio Falcomeni, although neither is expected to be part of Gattuso’s squad when the season kicks off.

Called up: Belahyane, Dele-Bashiru, Przyborek, Rovella, Taylor, Galassi, Farcomeni

Attackers

Lazio currently have a thin attacking department. Pedro bid the club farewell ahead of a possible retirement, Daniel Maldini returned to Atalanta, while Gustav Isaksen is recovering from a recent groin surgery.

Matteo Cancellieri, Boulaye Dia, Tijjani Noslin, Petar Ratkov and club captain Mattia Zaccagni are joined by Gabriele Artistico, who is coming off a positive Serie B experience at Spezia, and 20-year-old Federico Serra, while awaiting reinforcement from the market.

Called up: Artistico, Cancellieri, Dia, Noslin, Ratkov, Zaccagni, Serra
