With Mario Gila’s move to Milan now agreed, Lazio have wasted no time in lining up his successor, turning their attention to Sergi Dominguez.

According to Sky Sport, sporting director Angelo Fabiani has travelled to Croatia to meet Dinamo Zagreb in a bid to get the deal over the line.

Lazio target Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominguez to fill Gila void

Dinamo value the young defender at €12 million, a figure Lazio are hoping to reach through the inclusion of bonuses.

Fabiani’s personal trip underlines how seriously the Biancocelesti are pursuing the centre-back, whom new head coach Gennaro Gattuso has earmarked as a priority reinforcement for his backline.

Dominguez, 21, is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy who left the Catalan club for Dinamo Zagreb last summer.

He announced himself immediately in Croatia, playing a central role in the side that swept the domestic double, and his performances quickly drew attention from across Europe. Barcelona, for their part, stand to benefit from a sell-on clause included in that transfer.

For Lazio, the Spaniard represents a younger, long-term profile to inherit the shirt vacated by his compatriot Gila.

Should Fabiani succeed in bridging the gap to Dinamo’s valuation, Lazio will have moved swiftly to turn the proceeds of one Spanish centre-back’s sale into the arrival of another.
