Lazio season awards: highs and lows from a turbulent 2025/26

Lazio’s 2025/26 was bruising, marked by a summer transfer ban, mid-season downsizing, injuries and refereeing rows, plus protests and an empty Stadio Olimpico amid a public Lotito and Sarri stand-off. According to The Laziali, the club’s season awards underline stark contrasts.

Most improved was Oliver Provstgaard. The 22-year-old moved from fringe status to dependable starter, stepping in on opening day for the suspended Alessio Romagnoli and delivering assured, low-error performances that point to significant upside. Most declined was Matias Vecino, who struggled for fitness, then mutually rescinded his deal and joined Celta Vigo in February.

Best signing was Kenneth Taylor, a Netherlands international taken from Ajax mid-season who debuted within days and became a midfield mainstay. Worst was €13 million forward Petar Ratkov, emblematic of board-coach discord, and he spent the second half on the bench.

Best individual display was Edoardo Motta at Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, stepping up after Ivan Provedel’s season-ending injury to save four of five penalties. By contrast, Nuno Tavares hit his low at Bologna, withdrawn at half-time before later improving.

Best moment was Tijjani Noslin’s winner at Parma with Lazio down to nine men. The worst was a near-empty Olimpico after a boycott launched in January, bar AC Milan in March and the Coppa Italia final. Fans’ finest gesture was saluting Pedro under the Curva Nord after that defeat.

Best player, narrowly, was Alessio Romagnoli for steady authority even after a collapsed move to Qatar in January. With no attacker surpassing five goals and others limited by timing or injury, Mario Gila was the closest rival but less consistent. Romagnoli was arguably their standout.
