Lazio could look to Fabio Grosso or Gennaro Gattuso if Maurizio Sarri leaves. Il Messaggero reports the 2006 World Cup winners are being lined up as potential successors.
Sarri returned for a second spell last summer, but he has been hampered by a summer transfer ban, key January sales and a stadium boycott by protesting supporters.
The 67-year-old has kept Lazio eighth in Serie A and in contention for the Coppa Italia.
He is willing to stay if he receives transfer-market guarantees. The report does not expect a repeat of his March 2024 resignation, or for him to forgo his €2.5 million salary, unless a tempting offer arrives elsewhere.
Sarri is said to have admirers at Fiorentina, AC Milan, Bologna, Atalanta and Napoli, who could part with Antonio Conte.
Grosso is thriving at Sassuolo, having led them back to Serie A after dominating the second tier last season. The Emilians are 10th and the 48-year-old is contracted until June 2027.
Gattuso is unattached after resigning from the Italy post. He failed to take the Azzurri back to the World Cup, though many fans and pundits argue he was not the main culprit, with Italian football’s problems seen as deeper.
