Lazio manager Gennaro Gattuso has reportedly handpicked Fiorentina midfielder Marco Bresciani as his favorite option to bolster the squad.

Why Lazio Need a New Attacking Midfielder

The Biancocelesti have been searching the market for a new attacking midfielder, as the Calabrian tactician opted to distance himself from Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation and adopt a 4-2-3-1 system. The club had agreed personal terms with Jonathan Asp Jensen, but couldn’t close the deal with Bayern Munich, so the 20-year-old Dane ended up joining Deportivo La Coruña.

Lazio’s Choice for the Role

Gattuso had previously expressed his admiration for Dinamo Zagreb’s Luka Stojkovic, but the 22-year-old’s valuation is out of reach. Therefore, Lazio have been keeping tabs on Fiorentina duo Brescianini and Giovanni Fabbian, both of whom struggled to make an impact after arriving in Florence in January, and are now considered surplus to requirements at Fabio Grosso’s court.

Gennaro Gattuso Wants Marco Brescianini at Lazio

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Gattuso prefers Brescianini over Fabbian. The 26-year-old is a well-rounded midfielder capable of performing various roles in the middle of the park. He is perceived as someone who’s willing to sacrifice himself for the team, and he also has a knack for goals, as evidenced by the 10 strikes and five assists he produced in his 92 Serie A appearances.

Brescianini’s Career Path, Stats & Valuation

The Calcinate native is an AC Milan youth product who enjoyed his big breakthrough at Frosinone during the 2023/24 campaign, which earned him a €10 million move to Atalanta in the summer of 2024. However, the Italian was lost in the shuffle in Bergamo, so he ended up joining Fiorentina in January 2026, where he suffered a similar fate. Transfermarkt estimates his current value at €9 million.
