Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris says the club are taking a patient approach to the transfer market this summer.

The signing of Thomas Meunier on a free transfer has so far been the club’s only summer addition.

But Le Bris suggested the club are focusing on quality over quantity ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“It’s half of the job we’ve done last season, so it’s going to be different,” he told the Sunderland Echo.

“More precise, which is good because we have a strong foundation. We never know because the market is slow this season. It’s better to wait and to take the right decision rather than rushing anything.”

The Black Cats beat League Two side York City 5-1 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday thanks to a brace from Enzo Le Fee, and goals from, Chris Rigg, Tymur Tutierov and Tom Proctor.

Several first-team stars were not involved following their participation in the World Cup, and Le Bris explained: “It was good timing today for the first eleven, and then the young lads came in during the second half. And for the players who experienced the World Cup, we’ll have to build the first players without this game time at the beginning, or at least for a short game time.

“Progressively, through Lens and Rennes, and then the first game of the season, I hope we’ll have the full squad.”
