Le Havre are in shock after the sudden death of Bryan Bergougnoux, 43, assistant to coach Didier Digard.

The club said in a statement that Bergougnoux suffered a sudden illness in Toulouse and would not be there when the squad reconvenes, expressing profound grief and solidarity with the city. The message also evoked his friend Christophe Revault, who played for both clubs and died aged 49.

Bergougnoux joined in June last year after answering Digard’s call to become his assistant. He swiftly endeared himself across the dressing room and offices with his kindness, sense of duty and strong human values.

Whenever he could, the former forward publicly thanked the hierarchy and the coach for entrusting him with a role he had not expected.

News of his death devastated the Normandy club. Many inside the squad and staff were too upset to speak, with raw emotion evident in calls, messages and online.
