Robin Le Normand, Atlético Madrid defender and former Real Sociedad mainstay, has released his first book, 'Por miedo a decepcionar'. He reveals a childhood trauma, the death of his sister Lou aged five in an electrical accident, and how it shaped him.
He has not been involved with Spain at the World Cup and is using his early break to promote the autobiography. Speaking to Jugones, he said the loss left him protective of family and determined not to disappoint his parents.
He adds that open conversation became the family’s anchor, and he recounts how his mother chose to carry on with her three children.
Rejection marked his early career in France, and he admits he cried when Brest shut the door. A move to San Sebastián to join Sanse set him on course, and he settled at Real Sociedad at 22.
He concedes he once drifted into casinos in Donostia and briefly lost touch with money before strong support restored balance. In remarks to El Confidencial, he says a later breakthrough gave him a healthier view of finances.
Le Normand frames elite sport as a contest with an inner voice of doubt and fear. He credits Real Sociedad psychologist Imanol Ibarrondo with helping him release control and accept what comes.
Public scrutiny jarred at first, and he now reads far less about himself, though repeated criticism still guides improvements. The book, born of a wish to move forward, aims to help children see the person behind the footballer.
