Leeds have cooled their January move for Romano Schmid after completing Facundo Buonanotte.
According to Leeds Live, Buonanotte was the first-choice creative option, and once he became available the club stepped back from Schmid after initial contact. Sunday’s rumours likely stemmed from agents recycling old information after interest cooled, and Schmid’s contract runs to 2027.
Daniel Farke has said two more signings could be made if feasible without inflating the squad. Jack Harrison has left on loan to Fiorentina, with Buonanotte arriving after Harry Gray’s loan to Rotherham United.
A centre-forward is on the agenda only if the right option is affordable, with profit and sustainability rules tight after the summer. Leeds have enquired about Jorgen Strand Larsen and await Wolves’ response before deciding next steps. Even with instalments, a high fee for Strand Larsen would still pose a problem.
Joel Piroe appears the likeliest sale on minutes, having not started a Premier League match since August, but he wants to fight for his place and the club are not forcing him out.
A replacement wing-back is not being sought, and Napoli’s Noa Lang is not being considered. Despite Lucas Perri being dropped for Saturday’s win over Fulham for poor form, a new goalkeeper is not on the January list, with Perri, Karl Darlow, Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns already in place.
