Leeds United reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in more than two decades after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwich City at Elland Road.

The Premier League side controlled the contest for long periods and rarely looked in danger of suffering an upset against their Championship opponents.

Leeds took the lead midway through the first half through Sean Longstaff. The midfielder showed excellent technique to bring down Gabriel Gudmundsson’s cross before striking a superb volley beyond Norwich goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw.

Daniel Farke’s side doubled their advantage shortly before half-time. Dan James delivered a dangerous ball into the box and Gudmundsson reacted quickest after the Norwich defence failed to clear, finishing from close range.

Norwich struggled to create clear opportunities in the opening period but improved after the break. Lucas Perri was finally called into action when Kenny McLean struck from distance, forcing a routine save from the Leeds goalkeeper.

The visitors nearly pulled a goal back when substitute Errol Mundle-Smith delivered a dangerous cross across the face of goal, but Anis Ben Slimane could only guide his effort onto the outside of the post.

Leeds sealed the victory late on when Joel Piroe curled a superb left-footed strike into the corner to send his side into the last eight.
