Leeds United are being linked with a surprise move for Julian Brandt, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the month after leaving Borussia Dortmund, talkSPORT reports.

Brandt has enjoyed a successful spell in Germany after joining Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019.

He spent seven seasons at Dortmund, scoring 57 goals and weighing in with 70 assists across 307 appearances.

Having won 48 caps for the German national team, Brandt brings bags of experience and will be a shrewd addition for Leeds if they can secure his signature.

A move away from Germany would be a first in his career, and it could open the door for him to test himself in the Premier League.

Reports suggest Leeds see him as a realistic option, although they are not alone.

At least one club involved in the Champions League is also understood to be monitoring his situation, which could make the competition for his signature tougher.

However, landing a player of Brandt’s quality without paying a dime in transfer fees would be a major statement ahead of the new season.

Leeds finished 14th in the Premier League last season, staying eight points clear of the relegation zone after a campaign that at times looked like it could turn into a survival battle.

They now begin the new season with an away trip to Nottingham Forest, followed by a difficult early run that includes fixtures against Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

It has been a quiet summer so far at Elland Road, even as other Premier League clubs strengthen.

There is also uncertainty in goal, with Illan Meslier set to leave after seven years at the club. He did not feature for the senior team last season but made two appearances for the development side.

Meanwhile, Karl Darlow could also depart, with Manchester United reportedly showing interest as they look for a homegrown goalkeeper option.
