Leeds have played the “take it or leave it” card for Shea Charles, but Southampton remain unmoved on a £30m valuation.
According to Sainstmarching.com, there is no sign Southampton have returned to accept the proposal, despite Charles missing a behind-closed-doors friendly today. Pre-season absences during talks often prove meaningless.
Leeds have already had offers of about £20m and £23m turned down, and a “take it or leave it” line does not change the arithmetic. Southampton have little reason to blink, with major business done early after Daniel Peretz joined permanently from Bayern.
Charles, signed from Manchester City in 2023, has quietly become one of the steadier holding midfielders at this level. Crystal Palace have entered the race with European football to offer, and Fulham are also in the frame. With three suitors, the seller sets the terms.
For Leeds, the choices look stark, find roughly another £7m to meet the number or walk and risk someone else doing it. The nagging fear for supporters is a cut-price goodbye to the best midfielder at the club, but Southampton’s stance suggests no appetite to undersell.
The backdrop matters. Southampton begin 2026/27 in the Championship on minus four points after the Spygate expulsion, and a fee near £30m would fund a serious rebuild rather than weaken the spine.
Verdict: 4/5, smart at £30m, not at Leeds’ current number. Likelihood: 2/5, the framing sounds final, but a third suitor makes a discount unlikely.
