Englands last 16 tie with co-hosts Mexico kicks off at one am British time on Monday, so Leeds supporters are asking how late pubs can stay open. Sunday night locally in Mexico City, the Azteca will host the game.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has relaxed licensing for the knockout rounds, allowing pubs to open until two am.

With a one am start, that window would likely only take fans to half time on Monday, and extra time or penalties could push the finish well beyond.

Venues can apply for a temporary licence to trade past two am to cover very late kick-offs caused by the time difference. It is the first time in a decade that such a relaxation has applied to the rounds of 32 and 16.

England booked their place after falling behind to an early goal against the Democratic Republic of Congo, then Harry Kane struck twice late to turn it around and spare Thomas Tuchel.

Mahmood said the aim was to avoid pubs calling time before decisive moments and to let supporters watch while backing local businesses.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves added that later opening could mean more trade and jobs on high streets, with less red tape for landlords.

Tuchel urged families to put football before school on Monday, telling them to write an excuse and let children watch because the World Cup comes every four years and England need their support.
