Leeds United are heading to Wembley after a chaotic FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham ended with victory on penalties.

They squandered a two-goal lead, steadied in extra-time, then held their nerve as Pascal Struijk’s kick went in off the post. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports that West Ham’s safety team initially blocked penalties at the away end before a coin toss decided the location.

Lucas Perri wobbled in open play with a ballooned header and an offside let-off, but made big saves and excelled again in the shootout. Struijk’s dash to the away end felt a forever keepsake for a player eight years at the club.

Daniel Farke has steered Leeds to more history and will now lead them out against Chelsea. Joel Piroe came on for the second half of extra-time, made little impact and then missed the first penalty, his team-mates rescuing him.

Officiating left heads scratched, with no foul given when Anton Stach was caught late after shooting, while Lukas Nmecha’s late slide drew a booking. There was also a case for a free-kick before West Ham’s second goal given Disasi’s high boot near Pascal Struijk’s face.

Off camera, Leeds fans turned their backs to mark Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight. Anton Stach appeared at the extra-time interval in a protective boot and on crutches, and keeper coach Ed Wootten passed on instructions to Sebastiaan Bornauw as 20-year-old Finlay Herrick came on. Afterwards, Daniel Farke saluted Eddie Gray.
