The Times reports that Amorim’s relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox deteriorated after a fiery meeting, amid disagreement over ditching a back three.

Brenden Aaronson put Leeds ahead before Matheus Cunha quickly equalised. After the draw, Amorim delivered an unusual outburst about his position, and he departed the following day.

Ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle United, Leeds’ social channels posted Wilcox’s strike from the 2-2 draw in April 2000, a reminder of his Elland Road spell. Given the club’s taste for playful posts, it is hard to imagine the timing was accidental.

Leeds now chase only their third win on Tyneside since the turn of the century. Their most recent came in 2021, when Raphinha and Jack Harrison were on target.
