Ousmane Diomande’s Leeds United links are fading, with the Sporting Lisbon defender now seeming set for a Premier League move elsewhere as Leeds prioritise other areas after signing Tarik Muharemovic.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks with Sporting to land Diomande, and the centre-back now appears on course to play in the Premier League this season.

Muharemovic joined from Sassuolo last week in a deal worth around £34, a move that capped Leeds’ search for a leading centre-back after Pascal Struijk left for Brighton and Hove Albion last month.

Leeds had targeted a new centre-back even before Struijk’s departure and will still be on the lookout for further defensive cover, notably a full-back who can also play centrally.

Muharemovic’s arrival has signalled the end of any big-money defensive addition, so talk of Diomande coming to Elland Road has surely ended. He was heavily linked last month and explored as an option, but the club did not act.

Leeds believe Muharemovic fits Daniel Farke’s plans, and attention will now turn to strengthening elsewhere after adding the centre-back and Harry Wilson to boost the attack.
