Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Karl Darlow has left following the expiry of his contract, despite offering him a new deal. He has decided to join Manchester United, where he will provide back-up to the first-choice keeper.

The club said in a statement that the 35-year-old chose to pursue a different challenge and departs with their best wishes.

Darlow arrived ahead of 2023/24 and debuted in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. The following season he started the final seven Championship matches, Leeds won six, and the title was sealed at Plymouth Argyle on the final day.

In that campaign he made his Wales debut, following his grandfather, in a 2-1 victory away to Montenegro. He now has 15 caps and has established himself as Cymru’s number one.

With Leeds back in the Premier League, he featured 22 times last term and collected April’s Save of the Month for a point-blank stop from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ladislav Krejci. He departs on 38 appearances, praised by the club as an exemplary professional who contributed to community work, after playing an important role in the 2024/25 Championship title and helping secure survival last season.

Leeds plan to recruit another goalkeeper this summer. After Illan Meslier’s move to Arsenal and Darlow’s departure, Daniel Farke’s options are Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns until a new signing arrives.
