Leeds United will honour Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight at Elland Road this weekend and are in positive talks with West Ham United over further tributes on Sunday 5 April, 26 years after the pair were murdered in Istanbul.

The club said in a statement that Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brentford at Elland Road, on 21 March, will feature a minute’s applause before kick-off and a big-screen tribute in the 26th minute, with family members of Chris and Kev attending.

Captains from both sides will lay wreaths at the side of the dugout. Chairman Paraag Marathe and managing director Robbie Evans will also lay wreaths at the East Stand plaque before kick-off.

On the anniversary itself, Sunday 5 April, Leeds visit West Ham United in the FA Cup quarter final at the London Stadium, kick-off 4:30pm. The clubs are in positive dialogue to arrange the laying of two wreaths in front of the away end before the game.

Marking the date has become a tradition among Leeds supporters at fixtures close to the anniversary. Fans have previously unfurled banners and turned their backs in remembrance, including during last year’s game against Hull City.
