Leeds United have removed derelict changing rooms in Fullerton car park, which carried a mural honouring Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, after receiving the families’ support, as redevelopment at Elland Road progresses. The pair were murdered in Istanbul in April 2000 while following Leeds in Europe.
The club said in a statement that work began last month with demolition of the West Stand Banqueting Suite, followed by the former ticket office and LUTV studio, clearing the way for a reduced level dig and piling over the coming months.
A new access corridor is being constructed so the existing West Stand can operate at full capacity in 2026/27 while a replacement structure is built above it. The walkway will have separate routes for hospitality guests, home fans and away supporters.
Planning permission for a new West Stand was approved earlier this year and the proposals include a second phase for a new North Stand. When complete, the work will take Elland Road’s capacity to around 53,000.
A new hospitality facility behind the North Stand is ready to be fitted out ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season for relocated West Stand hospitality customers.
The broadcast compound has been moved from Fullerton car park to a site across the road from the North Stand.
