Leeds United expect Isaac Schmidt to depart permanently this summer, with FC Basel and Young Boys hovering.

The 26-year-old joined from St Gallen in summer 2024 for around £2.5m on a four-year deal, but made 14 appearances, 12 in the Championship. He then spent 2025/26 on loan and will leave without starting a single league game for Daniel Farke.

At Werder Bremen he started six matches and came off the bench 13 times. He scored on debut, registered no further goals or assists, and Werder stayed up by six points before declining a permanent move.

Basel and Young Boys finished fifth and sixth in the Swiss Super League’s Championship group last season, both missing out on European football.

Max Wober also went to Werder, but injuries restricted the 28-year-old to two Bundesliga outings and the option was not taken up. He is expected to depart Leeds too, though his situation is complicated.

“So far, relatively little [discussions on the future]. I'm pretty sure I won't be the most sought-after player at Leeds United anymore. That much is clear to me. We'll see how things develop,” he told DAB Der Audiobeweis.

Wober exercised a relegation release clause to go on loan after 2023, then returned in 2024/25, when two knee surgeries limited him to eight league games as Leeds escaped the second tier.

Harry Gray’s move to Sheffield Wednesday is due in the next day or two, while Leeds continue to prioritise Southampton midfielder Shea Charles after two unsuccessful bids.
