The Metropolitan Police said the FA Cup semi-final between Leeds United and Chelsea at Wembley passed largely without incident, with 14 arrests, while some Leeds supporters could face prosecution over homophobic chanting.
Chelsea advanced thanks to a first-half goal by Enzo Fernandez, with an official attendance of 82,542.
Arrests in or around the stadium were for offences including GBH, ABH, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault and tailgating.
A further 18 people were not arrested but will be reported for consideration of prosecution, including 16 Leeds fans for homophobic chanting.
Leeds had already warned supporters in 2024 that the ‘rent boy’ chant had been criminalised by the Crown Prosecution Service. The term is considered a homophobic slur and hate crime, and the CPS made it prosecutable in January 2022. In January 2023 the FA communicated to clubs its intention to pursue formal disciplinary action over its use.
