The Metropolitan Police said the FA Cup semi-final between Leeds United and Chelsea at Wembley passed off largely without incident, with 14 arrests. A number of Leeds supporters could yet face prosecution over homophobic chanting.

Chelsea advanced thanks to an Enzo Fernandez first-half goal, with an official attendance of 82,542.

Offences included GBH, ABH, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault and tailgating.

A further 18 people were not arrested but will be reported for consideration of prosecution for other offences, including 16 Leeds fans seen and heard engaging in homophobic chanting.

Leeds had previously warned supporters that the ‘rent boy’ chant is a homophobic slur and constitutes a hate crime. The Crown Prosecution Service made its use prosecutable in January 2022, and in January 2023 the FA said it intended to pursue formal disciplinary action related to it.
