Elland Road was packed on Saturday as Leeds United supporters marked an emotional night remembering Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, murdered in Istanbul 26 years ago. The 0-0 draw with Brentford felt secondary to the tributes.
Before kick-off, chairman Paraag Marathe and managing director Robbie Evans laid wreaths at the memorial plaque outside the ground, followed by a minute’s applause. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk highlights a selection of images from the occasion.
During the game, fans turned their backs on the action, mirroring the gesture made 26 years ago and repeated every year since.
Supporters travelled from far and wide to follow Leeds and, above all, to remember Chris and Kev. It was the final Elland Road fixture before the 26th anniversary on April 5.
The match offered little drama, but the night was defined by unity and remembrance.
