Leeds United hail 'momentous' start to Elland Road upgrade and outline fan benefits | OneFootball

Leeds United have formally begun work to enhance Elland Road, with the first phase focused on the West Stand. The club said in a statement that it marks a 'momentous' point in the club’s 106-year history.

Demolition of the old ticket office and LUTV studio has already taken place. Floodlights behind the West Stand are down, and a temporary hospitality base is rising at the back of the Kop.

A new West Stand will be constructed over the existing structure, with the removal of the Banqueting Suite the starting step. This is the opening move in turning Elland Road into a UEFA Category four venue, which would place it among elite European football stadia.

Club executives, the Leeds United Foundation and Leeds City Council representatives attended alongside ambassadors Stuart Dallas, Tony Dorigo and Eddie Gray to mark the start.

Expanding capacity is described as vital, with a 32,000-strong season-ticket waiting list. The upgrade would also enable bids for major international tournaments and showcase events with civic partners, potentially bringing cultural and economic benefits for the Leeds City Region.

Supporters are promised improved seating, comfort and sightlines throughout the new West Stand, plus enhanced concourses and fan spaces in and around the ground. Plans include a more inclusive and accessible environment and world-class hospitality. The upgrade is billed as helping recruitment of top talent by providing a stage befitting elite-level football.
