Leeds United head into the summer window with Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink pinpointing four areas to strengthen as Daniel Farke looks to build on last season’s 14th-place finish. The club have already tied down captain Ethan Ampadu on a new deal.
"Yeah, they did exceptionally well. I think they need more quality in depth. Dominic Calvert-Lewin did magnificently well upfront, but I think they need right and left wingers who can really deliver. Maybe a little bit more power in midfield, too. And a goalkeeper - the goalkeeper they took from France [Lucas Perri] didn’t really work out. Karl Darlow took over and did exceptionally well, but I think they need to strengthen permanently in that area." He was speaking to 10bet.
Chairman Paraag Marathe has said there will be fewer additions but of a higher quality. Leeds also want a right-wing or No.10 profile after missing out on Harry Wilson last summer.
Ampadu has signed a four-year contract to 2030, extending a deal that had been due to run to 2027 with a 12-month option. He was voted Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last month.
On Wednesday, Leeds confirmed they were in talks with Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram over extensions, with all three set to become free agents this summer. Illan Meslier will leave the club.
The window opens on Monday, 15 June, and Premier League clubs can start doing business then. Leeds expect most recruitment to follow the 2026 World Cup in mid-July.
