Leeds United have left a final offer on the table for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles and will not increase it, though they have not abandoned hopes of a deal this summer.
According to Leeds Live, a third and improved bid still falls short of Southampton's valuation, which was around £30m earlier in the summer. There is acceptance the price could drop with add-ons, yet the latest proposal has not shifted the Saints.
Leeds have told Southampton this is their final position and are open to resuming talks if the price moves and their terms are accepted.
Fulham have been credited with opening talks, with suggestions a £25m deal is possible, but Leeds are unconcerned and believe a deal could still emerge if rivals do not meet the current asking price.
While keen to bring Charles in, Leeds feel they have already stretched beyond what they see as fair. With other targets and a defined budget, they intend to hold firm.
