Leeds United loanee Mateo Joseph has posted an emotional message to Mallorca after their final-day relegation, with his season already over through injury.

While Leeds were safe before the finale, Mallorca were still in peril against already-relegated Real Oviedo. A 3-0 win was not enough, results and goal difference leaving Martín Demichelis' men 18th and returning to the second tier, with two teams above on 42 points and three more on 43. The player said in a post that words were hard to find and that from the start he felt part of the club, the dressing room and the city.

Joseph started 19 of the first 30 La Liga fixtures and came on 10 times. He scored two goals and made four assists, the last in April's win over Real Madrid. That proved his final appearance, an ACL injury requiring surgery and ending his campaign.

It hurt that he could not finish the season on the pitch, and he lived every game as one of them, noting the dressing room's suffering. He also believes the club will return to where it belongs.

Joseph thanked colleagues, staff and doctors, along with sporting director Pablo Ortells and Jagoba Arrasate for trusting him, and Demichelis for the final stretch. He is convinced this is the beginning of something that will bring fans even closer to their club.

He returns to Leeds this summer with his future unclear. Last pre-season he told Daniel Farke he did not feel ready to travel to Sweden for a Manchester United friendly, then chose not to join the Germany training camp after asking for a move back to Spain. Leeds maintained they would only sanction a loan, and the 22-year-old has two years left on his Elland Road contract.
