Former Leeds United and Wales midfielder Terry Yorath has died aged 75 after a short illness. Leeds United are mourning his passing.

On Thursday morning his family confirmed the news. The family said in a statement that to many he was a revered football figure, but to them he was a quiet, kind and gentle father, and they take comfort in the belief he will be reunited with their brother, Daniel.

Yorath joined Leeds in 1967, making 199 appearances and winning the First Division in 1974 under Don Revie. He won 59 caps for Wales.

After leaving Leeds in 1976, he had spells with Coventry, Tottenham, Vancouver Whitecaps, Bradford and Swansea.

He later moved into management, taking charge of Swansea across several spells, and also Cardiff, Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday and Wales.

His daughter, broadcaster Gabby Logan, left BBC’s Match of the Day on Wednesday night and was replaced by Mark Chapman.
