Leeds United said in a statement that preparatory works for Elland Road’s redevelopment mean a club mural will be moved and repainted.

Plans for a new West Stand received planning permission in January. The mural, on the north-east corner, marks the 1972 FA Cup win and features Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and a number of now-iconic players.

Created in 2022 to mark 50 years since that triumph, it was hand painted by Leeds artist Nicolas Dixon, commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters Trust. He used original portraits designed by fellow artist Paul Trevillion.

The wall will become the club’s new security hub, with the current hub to be demolished. The need for outward kiosk windows means the artwork will be relocated, with Dixon recommissioned to recreate it.

It will be repainted in full to retain its pride and prominence. Work on the new security hub is scheduled to begin on Wednesday 25 March, with thanks expressed to the supporters’ trust for its cooperation and support.
