Leeds United’s survival picture has brightened after a commanding win and mixed results for relegation rivals. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the bookmakers’ predicted final table has shifted as a result.
Daniel Farke’s side beat Wolves 3-0 on Saturday to move nine points clear of the drop. Later that day third-bottom Tottenham conceded a late equaliser in a 2-2 home draw with Brighton, leaving Leeds eight points above the bottom three.
Fifth-bottom Nottingham Forest boosted their hopes on Sunday, beating Burnley 3-1 with a Morgan Gibbs-White hat-trick, trimming the gap to Leeds to three and opening distance to both fourth-bottom West Ham and Spurs.
On Monday, West Ham’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace meant a win would have left them one point behind Forest and Spurs four adrift, but the stalemate saw Leeds ultimately move two points further clear of both Tottenham and West Ham through their victory at Molineux.
With five games remaining, Leeds are six points ahead of fourth-bottom West Ham and three clear of Forest. Looking upward, they sit three behind Newcastle United and four off Palace. In a further quirk, bookmakers have shortened the relegation odds for Tottenham, West Ham and Leeds since the Wolves result.
