Tottenham, one of Leeds United’s relegation rivals, won 1-0 at Wolves through Joao Palhinha’s second-half strike but remain third-bottom. The victory was marred by injuries to Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke.

Simons suffered a knee problem after a collision and his season is over following an ACL rupture. Solanke, a £65 million signing, was withdrawn with a suspected muscle issue. The Telegraph reports that scans indicate a grade-two hamstring injury which could sideline him for three to eight weeks.

After the game, Roberto De Zerbi said Solanke had a muscular problem, the extent was unclear, and assessments would follow in the next few days. He added he did not know how many games the striker might miss.

Even at the short end of that timetable he would miss at least two games, and anything beyond a month would effectively end his season. If so, he would be the fourth player to have his campaign curtailed since De Zerbi arrived four weeks ago, after issues for Mohammed Kudus, captain Christian Romero and Simons.

De Zerbi is due to provide an update on Friday before Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa. An absence of under two weeks would also keep Solanke out of a potential relegation six-pointer at home to Leeds on 11 May.

Leeds can strengthen their position by beating already-relegated, second-bottom Burnley at Elland Road on Friday. Victory would move them nine points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham, who will still have 12 points to play for.
