Leeds United look likely to miss out on re-signing Karl Darlow, with the free agent goalkeeper nearing a switch to Manchester United after talks over a new Elland Road deal.
According to The Athletic, a deal is at an advanced stage as United move to add experienced cover for first-choice keeper Senne Lammens.
Darlow, 35, became a free agent when his Leeds contract expired at the end of last month. Leeds discussed an extension, but Manchester United and Everton are both said to have offered terms, and Leeds’ proposal now appears to have fallen short.
Lammens is expected to remain first choice after impressing following a £18 million move from Royal Antwerp last season, with Darlow in line to be back-up. Altay Bayindir currently fills that role, but he is expected to leave this summer.
Darlow finished last season as Leeds’ first-choice, displacing £16 million signing Lucas Perri in January after errors against Manchester United and Newcastle. He made 22 Premier League starts, including April’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford, and kept five of Leeds’ eight clean sheets.
Daniel Farke’s squad currently has only one senior goalkeeper in Perri, who struggled last season. Darlow’s likely exit increases pressure on Leeds to recruit at least one goalkeeper this summer.
