Leeds United have confirmed that preparatory work for Elland Road’s redevelopment will see the club’s 1972 FA Cup mural moved and repainted.

The club said in a statement that artist Nicolas Dixon has been recommissioned to repaint the piece in full, and that work on the new security hub will begin from Wednesday 25 March, adding thanks to the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust.

Plans for a new West Stand received planning permission in January, and the mural, installed in 2022, forms part of that scheme.

Positioned at the north-east corner of the ground, the artwork marks the 1972 triumph and depicts manager Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and several now-iconic players.

It was created in 2022 to mark 50 years since that success, after the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust commissioned Dixon to hand paint an abstract design using original portraits by fellow artist Paul Trevillion.

The wall currently hosting the mural is set to become the club’s new security hub, with the existing hub to be demolished. The requirement for outward kiosk windows means the artwork must be relocated and repainted.
