Leeds United want to sign Sporting CP defensive midfielder Hidemasa Morita in the summer having attempted to lure him to Elland Road last year, according to the Daily Mail.

Leeds have impressed on their return to the top-flight and Whites manager Daniel Farke is keen to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

Morita opted to see out the final year of his Sporting contract when the Peacocks came calling last summer, but the 40-cap Japan international is now willing to commit to the move once Leeds secure their Premier League status.

The West Yorkshire club are currently 15th in the league table ahead of their final four games, six points clear of the relegation places.

One more victory could be enough to guarantee their safety, and they will fancy their chances of picking up all three points when they take on relegated Burnley on Friday at home.

Leeds face Spurs, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United afterwards and are expected to do enough to get the job done.

Farke will look to challenge for a top-half-of-the-table finish next season, and adding Morita to his midfield could be huge.

The 30-year-old brings much-needed experience to the table having played over 100 Primeira Liga games for Sporting.

He has won two league titles and could be a huge addition to the Leeds dressing room as they look to become mainstays in the Premier League going forward.

Morita will be available for free as he is out of contract at the end of the season, and more suitors could join the Whites in his pursuit.

He has been in fine form this term, even weighing in with one goal and five assists in 45 games despite playing from defensive midfield.

Some Sporting supporters are urging the club to give the Japanese a new contract, but a move to the Premier League appears to appeal to him.

Morita is a brilliant passer and tough tackler, and Leeds could be getting a fine midfielder for free.
